COMMUNITY PARTNERS DETAILS

The focus of this project is the reconstituting of ancient knowledge following what is known as the “New Dawn of Indigenous Peoples,” the era that began with the dawn of the year 2012.  As part of this process, in September 2013, an unprecedented intercontinental meeting of Indigenous Timekeepers and traditional leaders from various Indigenous Nations in the Americas convened in the Hopi village of Hotevilla, where a conversation about the New Dawn and its meaning for Indigenous Peoples began. Efforts were made to incorporate the knowledge of Indigenous calendars, the importance of maintaining lunar and solar ceremonies to regain harmony and balance with the natural environment, and the healing of communities that is necessary after 500 years of oppression and dispossession, colonization and racism.
As a continuation of the work of this initial meeting, Earth Timekeepers will hold another forum, as well as a meeting between Indigenous leaders from the United States and Mexico. The aim of these events is to further the work of reincorporating Indigenous calendars and the knowledge they contain into community life and ways of learning.
There are Earth Timekeeper members all over North America, so this project will benefit Indigenous communities from across the continent, but the long-term vision is to extend this relationship to all peoples so that together we can heal our Mother Earth.
Whether people are living in urban, semi-urban or rural areas, the spreading of a deep understanding of Indigenous calendars and how to use them will not only foster a greater understanding of our relationship with everything around us, but also a sense of unity and harmony within and across communities.
This project supports the expansion of consciousness that is necessary for Indigenous peoples and the rest of the world to walk in beauty, to avert the crisis that humanity is facing by inspiring a profound change in worldview, and to become one family.
