COMMUNITY PARTNERS DETAILS

Through the Asociación de Mujeres YAMARAM NUA in Ecuador, this project seeks to acquaint a new generation of Shuar people in the communities of Tsurakú, San Antonio, and Nayumentsa with their language, customs, practices, and ancestral knowledge. Of every 10 Shuar children, 9 are alienated from the culture, which is contributing to migration, crime, alcoholism, prostitution, and other disruptive behaviors. With the project underway, the community can recover the oral-practical method of teaching and transmission of the cultural heritage to Shuar children and adolescents.
